Slab Leak Detection — Silver Lake, CA

Slab Leak Located and Repaired Under Silver Lake Living Room Floor

The Problem

A Silver Lake homeowner contacted us after receiving an LADWP bill nearly double their normal usage. No visible leaks anywhere in the house. When we tested the meter with all fixtures off, it was still turning — confirming an active leak. Pressure testing indicated the loss was in the hot water supply line. Acoustic detection with our ground microphone equipment located the leak approximately 8 feet from the exterior wall, under the living room concrete slab.

What We Did

Given the location — center of the living room floor — we presented two options: direct access (cut the slab at the exact leak point) or re-route the affected hot water line through the attic. The homeowner chose the re-route to avoid disturbing the hardwood floor. We ran a new copper line from the water heater through the attic and down to the original connection points, bypassing the damaged slab section entirely. The old line was capped and abandoned in place.

The Result

No flooring was disturbed. The re-route was completed in a single day. Water bill returned to normal on the next billing cycle. The new attic line carries a full warranty and is accessible for future service, which the original slab line was not.
